The book group for any generation, any gender reader who likes to read YA. We meet the 3rd Saturday of every month at 2:00pm in DG.

How To Raise a Global Citizen
Meetings At: Anderson's Bookshop Downers Grove - 5112 Main St, Downers Grove

A bimonthly (every other month) book salon dedicated to helping parents broaden their children’s perception of the world. All meetings will begin at 2:00 pm.

  • July 16: Opening your child’s world to LGBTQ issues. This session will also include a speaker from PFLAG.
  • Sept. 17: Opening your child’s world to the Muslim experience. This session will also include a speaker from the Islamic Foundation.
  • Nov. 19: Helping your child understand what it means to be a part of a community.
     


Read Run Renew 2.0
Meetings At: Anderson's Bookshop Downers Grove - 5112 Main St, Downers Grove

Anderson’s Bookshop and Peak Running have partnered again for Read, Run, Renew 2.0! This group will meet every week, alternating between group discussions and training runs.  Our book selection for this version is Life Without Limits by Chrissie Wellington; our training runs following a C25K designed by Doug Beattie from Peak Running.

Starting on June 7, then every other week, we will meet at Anderson’s Bookshop for a book discussion as well as a discussion about training runs; injury prevention; motivation or any other questions that may come up. On the alternating weeks we will meet at Peak Running on Tuesday and Thursday evening for training runs. **Participants who purchase the book from Anderson’s AND make it to 4 of the Wednesday group discussions plus one training run per week will receive a “You Made It!” reward at the Aug 30 meeting!**

The Whole Story
Meetings At: Anderson's Bookshop Downers Grove - 5112 Main St, Downers Grove

A monthly salon dedicated to books, information and advocacy. Each session will include a 45 minute book discussion followed by 15 minutes of advocacy (letter/postcard writing; making phone calls to representatives; education on issues, etc).

  • June 24 at 6:30 pm: We will be discussing Hillbilly Elegy followed by a crash course in what it means to be an effective advocate for change.

We will have more dates and titles coming for this group.


Young At Heart
Meetings At: Anderson's Bookshop Downers Grove - 5112 Main St, Downers Grove

This group is designed for adults who put books into the hands of young readers. Our focus will be the newest of the new in Middle Grade and Young Adult literature. All meetings begin at 6:30 pm.

  • June 27: Say No to the Bro by Kat Helgeson (Kat Helgeson will be joining the meeting).
  • August 1: Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali
  • October 3: Refugee by Alan Gratz
