Anderson's Mock Award Programs
HAVE YOUR STUDENTS MOCK WITH US!
WHAT'S A MOCK?
Each year our children's team curates 3 lists of the books we consider to be top candidates for the best children's literature has to offer in a given year.
- The John Newbery Medal is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. We have curated 25 of the best published this year.
- The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal is awarded annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished informational book published in the United States in English during the preceding year. We have selected 20 of the best informational books for kids published this year.
- The Randolph Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. We have selected 15 of the best in illustrated picture books this year.
We use our knowledge of the books and that of the many educators, publishers, authors, and reviewers to develop our annual lists of mock Newbery, Sibert, and Caldecott nominees.
Our mock award programs are a great way for you to get the year’s best books to your students. The program encourages critical thinking and the sharing of stories. Curated titles are given thorough consideration; they are the books we deem to be the year’s best and worthy of recognition for their respective award.
HOW DO WE MOCK?
Purchase a set (or partial set) of our mock Newbery, Sibert, and/or Caldecott titles to participate in voting. Encourage your students to read them! For mock Caldecott, guide your students in analyzing the illustrations in order to choose a winner! Special discounts may apply. Please contact Anne Waite at email@example.com for more information.
Your school will receive a free book talk with the purchase of a complete mock Newbery, Caldecott, or Sibert set! Additionally, your school will receive a unit plan and support materials with the purchase of a complete mock Caldecott set. Contact Lorie Barber at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information, or to schedule a book talk at your school. We are happy to share ideas on how you might use these books with your students.
HOW DO WE VOTE FOR OUR MOCK FAVORITES?
After students read as many titles from the lists as possible, they will submit their votes for their top five books. Voting forms will be available in January after the holiday break.
Anderson's mock award winners will be announced on Friday, January 19, 2023.
The winners and honors for the 2022 Newbery, Sibert, and Caldecott awards will be announced on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the ALA Youth Media Awards. Check our site for more details!
