Denis Leary

Wednesday, November 1st at 7:00 PM
Wentz Concert Hall on the campus of North Central College

Join us for a night of comedy with Denis Leary and – just added – Alonzo Bodden!

From the author of the bestselling Why We Suck comes a searing comic look at these divisive times, skewering liberals and conservatives alike with a signature dose of sarcasm and common sense.  In a special event, Denis will be in conversation with Last Comic Standing season 3 winner Alonzo Bodden.  A Q&A will follow the presentation.

In another special part of the night, Denis’ work with firefighters will be highlighted as a portion of the proceeds will benefit the charities of Naperville Professional Firefighters for a Cause.  Uniformed firefighters will be available after the show for photo opps and greetings!

More about the book:
In an America so gluten-free that a box of jelly donuts is now a bigger threat than Vladimir Putin, where college kids are more afraid of Ann Coulter than HIV, it’s time for someone to stand up and make us all smell the covfefe.

Dr. Denis Leary is that guy.

With Why We DON’T Suck: And How All of Us Need to Stop Being Such Partisan Little Bitches, Denis is on a devoted mission to #MakeAmericaLaughAgain. Using the clamorous political atmosphere as a starting point, he takes a bipartisan look at the topics we all hold so dear to our patriotic hearts—including family, freedom, and the seemingly endless search for fame and diet vodka.
“America will not be disappointed. Sure to offend some readers, but many more will find plenty of food for thought while also getting in a good laugh. Leary’s ribbing of social media, complete with fake tweets from famous individuals, is particularly amusing.”—Kirkus Reviews

About Denis Leary:  Denis Leary is a five-time loser at the Emmy awards. And the Golden Globes. He has lost in both the drama and comedy categories. In leading and supporting roles. Not to mention writing. Leary hopes to one day be nominated for—and more than likely not win—an Oscar, a Grammy, and a Tony Award. His first literary foray Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid was a New York Times bestseller, but not nominated for The National Book Award. In his long and storied entertainment career, Leary has also never won The Stanley Cup, The Nobel Peace Prize, or an argument with his wife.

About Alonzo Bodden:  Alonzo’s material is “cynically good natured.” Well, the older he gets, the less good natured it’s gonna be. “‘What can I say? The stupid out there is wearing the man down.”  Bodden, who won Season 3 on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, is a regular on NPR’s “Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!” and “Comedy Congress,” as well as being a panelist on the Game Show Network’s “Mind of a Man.”  His film credits include “Scary Movie 4,” “The Girl Next Door,” and “Bringing Down the House” starring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah.
