Attention children’s book lovers! If you are passionate about children’s literature, have a strong knowledge of content for all age groups (both old and new books), and love to work with people, then we have a job for you!
Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville is looking for a part-time Children’s Floor Bookseller (20 - 24 hours/week including Saturdays) to be a valuable member of our children’s team. This individual will support, contribute and build off of Anderson’s reputation as a leader in the children’s literature world.
Qualified candidates must possess a passion for and a working knowledge of children’s literature (both old and new), should be energetic, detail-oriented, and able to multitask. We are looking for someone who has strong, concise communication skills, has the ability to speak confidently in public, work closely with our Education Director to support educators and students, shows initiative, is technology savvy, and collaborates within teams. Exemplary customer service skills are a must. In short, this candidate must be a cheerleader for children’s literature to anyone that walks in the door!
Some of the Children’s Bookseller responsibilities include:
- Helping customers (including educators, kids, and parents) find books, using knowledge of children’s literature both old and new
- Working the register and shelving books
- Co-hosting children’s programming for the store, including author appearances
- Working with the children’s team at both stores, the owner, the store managers, and the marketing department to ensure a positive customer experience and smooth communication

Downers Grove Bookstore Manager
Calling all bookworms! Anderson’s Bookshop is looking for a store manager to join our team in Downers Grove.
We need an organized, friendly booklover to lead our booksellers into the future. This is a rewarding full-time position with benefits.
There are some great opportunities for our Downers Grove store in the future, and our small bookselling team needs a natural leader to guide the ship to success. The right person will be a regular presence on the floor of the bookstore and will demonstrate enthusiasm for what we do daily. We are also looking for someone with a flexible schedule as our store is open 7 days a week with varying hours, and an understanding of independent retail and our place in the world of books.
The store manager will be responsible for running all operations of this location including scheduling and managing staff, monitoring sales, administrative duties, hiring, training, managing inventory, creating displays, and overseeing receiving, returns, events, and running the local author/consignment program. They will also be responsible for the culture of the store, continuing our exemplary customer service goals, and encouraging and inspiring the staff. They will work in tandem with the Naperville store manager and will report to the General Manager and the owner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years previous retail management experience
- Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail
- Approachable and friendly with great listening skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to shift gears quickly in a fast-paced environment
- A high comfort level with technology
- A sense of humor
- A love of books and reading
- Trustworthiness and dependability
Additionally, this job also requires the ability to be on your feet for long periods of time and to lift 50+ pounds, as books are heavy. If offered position, candidate must provide proof of COVID vaccination prior to first day of work.
